OpenAI announced in a post on X that it is expanding its global presence by opening new offices in cities such as New York, Seattle, Paris, Brussels, and Singapore, adding to its existing locations in San Francisco, London, Dublin, and Tokyo. This move is part of the company's ongoing global expansion efforts, following a major $6.6 billion funding round, a restructuring plan, and several executive departures.
Managing Director Oliver Jay, formerly the chief revenue officer at Asana and head of APAC and LATAM at Dropbox, will lead international operations from Singapore. OpenAI shared with TechCrunch that the Singapore office, set to open by the end of the year, will serve as a hub for supporting customers and partners in the Asia Pacific region, with recruitment for engineers already underway.
“Singaporeans are among the highest per capita users of ChatGPT worldwide, with weekly active users doubling since the beginning of the year,” OpenAI stated.
In conjunction with the office launch, OpenAI is partnering with AI Singapore to extend its AI technology across Southeast Asia. AI Singapore, a national program backed by the National Research Foundation, helps local companies and research organisations harness AI advancements.
“Singapore has solidified itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence, using the technology to tackle major societal challenges and drive economic growth,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. "We’re excited to collaborate with the government and Singapore’s flourishing AI ecosystem as we expand into the APAC region."
