Lightsonic Secures €3.3M to Turn Telecom Cables Into Smart Infrastructure Sensors

UK–Norwegian deeptech startup Lightsonic has raised €3.3 million in seed funding to scale its AI-driven software that transforms existing telecom fiber networks into smart infrastructure monitoring systems. Led by Maki.vc, with participation from RAISE Ventures and Sondo, this investment marks a major step in reshaping how cities and industries detect and respond to risks.

Lightsonic’s platform applies machine learning to existing fibre optic cables, enabling them to monitor entire city networks without installing new hardware. From underwater intrusions to gas leaks and physical tampering, the software classifies and reports events in real-time, dramatically improving how infrastructure is managed.

By eliminating the need for costly hardware upgrades, Lightsonic’s approach lowers entry barriers for governments and companies alike. The result? More scalable, affordable infrastructure monitoring that enhances both public safety and operational efficiency.

The startup, based in Norway with a UK subsidiary, plans to expand its team, ramp up product development, and prepare for commercial deployment across Europe and beyond. Lightsonic’s software-first model makes it an ideal fit for energy-rich northern regions and fast-growing urban centres seeking smarter, more sustainable solutions.

Unlike traditional systems that rely on expensive sensors, Lightsonic’s platform leverages the existing telecom backbone. This makes it easier to implement across industries, whether monitoring pipelines, boosting network resilience, or ensuring compliance in utilities.

The dual-use nature of Lightsonic’s tech has appeal across sectors. It’s ideal for defence-related applications while also supporting sustainability goals by reducing maintenance costs and environmental impact.

As investor Nicolas Chow from RAISE Ventures put it, “The pressure on infrastructure is higher than ever. Lightsonic’s scalable technology offers a powerful solution.”

With this fresh funding, Lightsonic is ready to transform fibre optics from passive data pipes into active defenders of the world’s most critical systems.
